O’Reilly’s Auto Parts – How NOT to Hang Heavy Parts

Just because they’re called “drywall screws” doesn’t mean you screw them into drywall and they’ll hold anything other than drywall. But that’s exactly what happened at O’Reilly’s Auto Parts in Tell City. They slapped metal hook racks onto the walls with no studs, no anchors, nothing—just drywall screws into drywall. Shocking no one, the whole setup started pulling loose and crashing down.

Enter Ho Ho Handyman. First, I ripped out the disaster. Then, I rebuilt it the right way:

Concrete anchors for the exterior block wall.

Toggle bolts where there were no studs to grab on the interior wall.

Laser-leveled precision to get three solid, even rows across all three walls.

No more raining mufflers.
